Ninracheer Nedumara Nayanar

The Story of Ninracheer Nedumara Nayanar

Nindracheer Nedumara Nayanar was a king of the Pandya dynasty who ruled from the ancient city of Madurai. Known initially as Kunpandiyan because of his hunchback, he was a follower of Jainism. His rule was marked by darkness, and his life by a mysterious fever.

His devout wife, Queen Mangaiyarkkarasiyar, and his dedicated minister, Kulachiraiyar, were devoted to Shiva. They invited the great young saint, Tirugnana Sambandhar, to Madurai to help the king. Through the saint's prayers and Shiva's grace, the king was miraculously cured of his fever and his physical deformity. He was not only healed physically but also spiritually, abandoning his former beliefs and becoming a devout follower of Shiva. His name was then changed to Nindracheer Nedumara Nayanar, meaning "Nedumarar who stood up perfectly."

After his transformation, the king ruled his kingdom with great justice and devotion. He defeated northern invaders in a great battle, securing his place in history. He ruled his empire in the name of Shiva, bringing peace and prosperity to his people. After a long and glorious reign, he achieved the ultimate bliss of serving the Lord in his final state. His story is a powerful tale of redemption and the transformative power of divine grace.
