Pukazhttunai Nayanar

The Story of Pukazhttunai Nayanar

Pukazhttunai Nayanar was a devout priest from the town of Seruviliputtur. His heart was so filled with love for Shiva that he meticulously performed his daily worship, even during a great famine. While others fled the area in search of food, Pukazhttunai Nayanar refused to leave, determined to continue his service to the Lord.

Despite the widespread starvation, he managed to gather the best flowers and fresh water for his daily rituals. However, the long days of hunger took a toll on his body. One day, exhausted and weak, he fainted while anointing the Lord at the temple altar.

That night, Shiva appeared to him in a dream and, moved by his unwavering dedication, promised to provide him with one golden coin every day until the famine ended. Pukazhttunaiyar awoke to find a coin on the altar. With his needs now met by divine grace, he was able to continue his service to Shiva with a renewed spirit.

After a life of dedicated worship and unyielding love, Pukazhttunai Nayanar was granted a place at the feet of Shiva. His story is a powerful testament to the idea that true devotion can overcome even the most challenging circumstances, and that the Lord will always provide for his most dedicated followers.
