Somasi Mara Nayanar
The Story of Somasi Mara Nayanar
In the village of Ambar, a learned Brahmin named Somasi Mara Nayanar lived a life of profound devotion to Shiva. Born into a family of Vedic scholars, he believed that the true purpose of all his rituals was to honor and praise the Lord. He constantly meditated on Shiva and considered all devotees of the god to be manifestations of Shiva himself. He would prostrate himself before them and serve them with great humility and love.
Somasi Mara Nayanar's faith was deeply rooted in the power of the Holy Five Letters ("Nama Shivaya"), which he believed purified the mind and led to spiritual bliss. He would regularly host feasts for Shiva's devotees, providing them with food and a welcoming environment.
He eventually moved to Tiruvarur, a town sacred to Shiva. There, he became a close friend of another great saint, Sundara Murti Nayanar. Somasi Mara Nayanar was deeply inspired by Sundarar's devotion and spent his time in Tiruvarur praising the god and his fellow saint.
His life was a testament to the power of a simple, unwavering faith. After a lifetime of devotion, service to his fellow devotees, and constant meditation on Shiva's holy name, Somasi Mara Nayanar was granted a place in Shiva's eternal home.
