Vayilar Nayanar
The Story of Vayilar Nayanar
In the city of Mayilapur, a place famous for its seaside temple, there lived a yogi named Vayilar. He belonged to a distinguished family and was a man of profound devotion. Vayilar believed that the truest form of worship was not in a physical temple, but in the temple of the mind.
He built a beautiful temple for Shiva entirely within his thoughts. He consecrated the Lord in its inner sanctum, with his own devotion serving as the light, his bliss as the sacred water, and his love as the offering. Every day, he performed this inner worship, singing praises to Shiva and immersing himself completely in this personal prayer.
Vayilar's spiritual practice was so pure and complete that he needed no external rituals or symbols. He found ultimate peace and fulfillment through this internal worship, which he performed for his entire life. He was a living example of the belief that a true devotee's mind is the most sacred of all temples. At the end of his life, Vayilar Nayanar achieved the ultimate goal of a yogi: he merged with Shiva, the greatest of all yogis, and found eternal liberation.
